Coopah, a run coaching app, has announced a £1.5m funding round, backed by pro-athlete Alistair Brownlee MBE and sports agent Ricky Simms.

Founded in 2022, Coopah is an AI-powered run coaching app designed to help its users get closer to reaching their goals with every run, aiming to reduce the 58% of new runners who give up on the sport within a month of starting.

The firm also announced the appointment of Gareth Nettleton as its new CMO, having previously worked as Strava’s marketing executive and driving them to reach over 100 million registered athletes.

The funding and appointment of Nettleton is intended to fuel the growth of Coopah, scaling its marketing efforts to bring the medicine of running to everyone, as well as investing in its core product.

Coopah CEO and co-founder Dan Strang said: “We can’t wait to show the 500 million existing runners and the thousands that start running every day, the power of Coopah.

“Bringing Gareth on board to spearhead this growth effort is an incredibly exciting moment for the business.”

Nettleton, aware of a global physical and mental health crisis, said: “Running is one of the things we believe can have a huge impact on that crisis.

“It is medicine for both body and mind.”

The app offers personalised training plans, workout feedback and community-driven motivational support.

The core product investment will aim to use AI to make its training plans smarter and more adaptive, and more flexible and social, allowing runners to complete their training together.

The funding round is led by Redrice Ventures and Active Partners, with participation from Amrock Ventures and Tom Singh of Rianta Capital, as well as doubling down from London Marathon Events initial 2023 investment.

Jonathan Heilborn of Redrice Ventures said: “Great team, great brand and as ever, it’ll be a marathon and not a sprint!”

The investment follows Coopah’s pre-seed round in 2023 which was led by London Marathon events, and has since made Coopah the official training partner of the TCS London Marathon.

Coopah is available in the App Store and Google Play, with a subscription costing £79.99 annually or £14.99 monthly.
