Alderley Lighthouse Labs, a human diagnostics testing facility based in Alderley Park, Cheshire has picked up £1.27m.

The round consisted of a £1.035m investment from NPIF – Maven Equity Finance – and £235,000 from venture capital firm Seneca.

“With self-testing and outsourcing driving demand in lab diagnostics, ALL is addressing a genuine market need with its impressive lab facilities at Alderley Park,” said Gavin Bell, investment director at Maven.

CEO Mark Wigglesworth and Simon Chapman created Alderley Lighthouse Labs after being involved in the Alderley Park, Cheshire, Covid testing facility.

Funding for the labs will go towards hiring more staff together with new testing services in genome sequencing and oncology. It already offers blood, urine and cellular tests.

Wigglesworth said: “With this investment our laboratory in the North West can continue to grow, providing much-needed diagnostic information to patients and support good clinical outcomes.”

The UK’s in vitro diagnostics (IVD) is worth £3bn per year, according to Alderley Lighthouse Labs.

Cheshire is set to become home to a new £30m supercomputer centre, with construction underway.

Last year, Bruntwood SciTech revealed a £20m lab redevelopment at Alderley Park.
