Monzo and Lendable founders invest in UK startup bringing e-learning to remote workers

London-based micro-learning platform GoodCourse has raised $770k in pre-seed funding led by RLC Ventures and RTP Capital. The stellar list of participants in the funding round include Monzo founder, Tom Blomfield, Lendable founder, Victoria Van Lennep, GoCardless and Nested founder, Matt Robinson and Look After My Bills founder, Henry de Zoete.

No log-ins required

Designed to reach 80% of workers who don’t work at a computer and, as a result, are often neglected by traditional corporate e-learning solutions, the new startup delivers short-form L&D content, paired with TikTok style explainer videos, directly to learners’ phones. Learners are enrolled by text message which means no apps to download or log-ins required.

Courses that look like Instagram stories

With social media transforming the way people consume information, the edtech startup is looking to turn corporate learning on its head with courses that look more like Instagram stories in an attempt to capture learner engagement. Current clients are seeing course completion rates over 80% – several times higher than through traditional elearning solutions.

The courses are typically served over five days, with daily lessons taking no longer than 3-minutes a day to complete, compared to current e-learning models which typically take upwards of an hour to complete.

Time for e-learning to catch up

Founded by Chris Mansfield and Omar Mughal, with strong early commercial traction building across a number of sectors, the platform will use the funding to further develop its learning experience and platform, as well as scale its sales and marketing functions.

Chris Mansfield, CEO, GoodCourse, says: “The learning ecosystem has left behind non-desk-based workers and remote audiences for too long. More than this though, social media has changed the way we consume information – it’s time for e-learning to catch up. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with leading investors and operators as part of our first fundraising.”

Reece Chowdhury, Founding Partner at RLC Ventures, says: “We are delighted to be leading GoodCourse’s pre-seed round and to join the team on their mission to bring best in class e-learning courses to the world of non-desk workers.”
