London-based fintech ClearBank has announced the appointment of Ken Johnstone as its new chief product officer to drive its product strategy across the UK and Europe.

Johnstone will join ClearBank’s group executive team, where he will oversee the expansion of the firm’s real-time clearing and embedded banking platform. His role will focus on accelerating product innovation across digital asset rails, corporate solutions, and embedded banking infrastructure.

With over 25 years of experience across the fintech, banking, and telecommunications sectors, Johnstone has a track record of scaling digital propositions globally.

Most recently, he served as chief product officer for NatWest Boxed and Mettle.

During his tenure at Mettle, he led the transformation of the service from an e-money proposition into a fully regulated digital bank, scaling the platform to over 150,000 UK business customers.

At NatWest Boxed, he was responsible for building and launching its cloud-native Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform.

The executive hire comes as ClearBank continues its international expansion, leveraging its cloud-native infrastructure to scale compliant financial products across new European markets.

“ClearBank has built a strong reputation as a trusted provider of regulated banking infrastructure, combining technology and regulatory expertise,” said Johnstone.

“As our clients continue to scale and innovate, there is a real opportunity to further develop the platform and introduce new products that support their ambitions. I’m really looking forward to working with the team to build on that progress and support our clients in the next phase of ClearBank’s growth.”
