Middlesbrough-based Teesside University is set to launch a London base in the tech campus Here East, becoming the latest organisation to locate in the thriving tech startup community.

Located at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Here East was initially established for the London 2012 Olympic games, but has since become a hub of universities, tech startups, and larger digital companies.

By establishing its London location in Here East, Teesside will join the likes of Staffordshire University and Liverpool Media Academy, along with many firms working in cybersecurity, esports, and creative media.

The Teesside University London base will offer courses in computer science, business, video game development, and other digital skills subjects.

“Here East has a track record of bringing together the brightest and most exciting businesses and academia from across the UK – and Teesside University making our campus its home is another example of this in action,” said Gavin Poole, CEO of Here East.

“The addition of state-of-the-art courses in cutting-edge sectors and technologies will complement what we have already established on campus.

“Access to talent [and] the delivery of a skills pipeline in relevant technologies for the creative sector only helps reinforce Here East as the perfect location for any technology and creative business regardless of scale.”

Laura Citron, CEO of London & Partners added: “The investment from Teesside University into the Here East innovation campus offers further proof that London is a world-class centre for both students and academic institutions.”

“Our city’s high concentration of top universities and graduates provides companies with access to the creative and highly skilled talent they need to scale.”
