Gaming Invests Big in Tech

Gaming

Gaming has always been pretty good at spending money on technology. Give a studio a new bit of hardware and it will soon be asking what it can do with it. Give developers a faster way of building games and they will usually find another way to push things a little further.

And that is happening across the industry at the moment.

It is not just the big console and PC studios either. Online gaming providers, casino software companies and live gaming studios are all looking for the next improvement. Sometimes it is something obvious, such as better graphics. Other times it is buried in the software and the player might never even notice it.

Either way, there is plenty of investment going on behind the scenes.

Bigger Games Need Better Tech

The days when a game could get away with a few basic animations and a handful of sound effects are long gone. Players have got used to games looking better, loading quickly and working properly across a range of devices.

That puts plenty of pressure on the studios making them.

A modern game can involve huge amounts of data, detailed graphics, complex animations and plenty of things happening at the same time. Developers need the technology to handle all of this without turning the whole thing into a slow, clunky mess.

The same applies to online casino games.

Slots, table games and other casino titles have become far more technically involved than their earlier digital counterparts. There are animated reels, video sequences, changing game features etc. With every online casino brand is constantly looking for ways to improve what their service has to offer, too. Better mobile performance, quicker loading, smoother navigation and more technically advanced games can all make a difference.

Live Gaming Is Another Big Area

Live casino has probably shown the importance of technology more than most.

Cameras need to provide a clear picture. Audio needs to work properly. The stream needs to remain stable. Information has to be delivered quickly, while the software keeps track of bets and game actions.

And nobody wants to watch a game where the picture keeps freezing just as the dealer is turning over a card.

This is why live gaming studios have been demanding better technology and bigger improvements. The cameras have improved, production quality has gone up and streaming technology has become much more capable.

Mobile Gaming Keeps Things Moving

Then there is the phone.

Mobile gaming has changed what developers have to think about because players are no longer sitting in one place with a powerful computer doing all the work. A game has to be able to run on a much smaller screen and on a huge variety of devices.

That means optimisation has become a major part of the process.

A technically impressive game is not much use if it takes forever to load or drains a phone battery in no time. Providers have to find a balance between quality and performance.

The Next Big Leap

There is no shortage of ideas about where gaming technology could go next.

Artificial intelligence is already being used in parts of game development, while virtual reality and augmented reality continue to attract attention. Cloud technology is another area that could change how games are delivered, particularly as connections become faster and more reliable.

Studios and providers know that players are getting harder to impress, and technology is one of the main ways they can keep moving forward.

For now, that means better graphics, smoother games, stronger live streams and more capable platforms. A few years from now, it could mean something we have not even thought about yet.
