On 12 January 2017, the Committee on Legal Affairs urged the European Commission to put forward new rules for the field of robotics – in order to settle such issues as compliance with ethical standards and liability for accidents involving driverless cars.
Rapporteur Mady Delevaux, a social-democratic MEP from Luxembourg, said: “A growing number of areas of our daily lives are increasingly affected by robotics. In order to address this reality and to ensure that robots are and will remain in the services of humans, we urgently need to create a robust European legal framework.”...
