Rooks Nest Ventures has announced the launch of a £28m investment fund targeting UK technology companies operating in the media and entertainment sectors.
The new London-based fund will seek to invest up to £400,000 at Seed level and will contribute a maximum of £1m to Series A rounds.
Film producer Michael Sackler, also the founder and managing partner of Rooks Nest Ventures, spoke about the news.
“We look to invest in entrepreneurs that are seeking to create global entertainment IP or are using tech to innovate around content. In order for us to invest, they must share our passion for bringing together the media and entertainment and technology industries.”
Rooks Nest Ventures has already made several investments, which include Doodle Productions (creator of the animated series ‘Messy Goes To Okido‘), Disruptor Beam (creator of mobile games such as ‘Game of Thrones Ascent‘ and ‘Star Trek Timelines’), PunchDrunk (an immersive theatre company) and The Rights Xchange (digital TV rights marketplace which also includes Sky and Channel 4 as investors).
Sackler added: “It’s been clear to me for some time that the media & entertainment sector needs to be brought closer to the world of technology. Content needs tech, and tech need content. So while there is some funding available for media and entertainment businesses, none of them truly link technology and content.”
He went on to note that he was seeking to bridge this gap with the launch of the new fund, “ensuring the capital gets where it needs to be, to the synergistic benefit of both media and entertainment and technology”.
The news comes after Draper Esprit closed a £160m investment fund last week.
