PropTech startup Cocoon appoints former Tesco CCO as chairman

Cocoon, a smart home security startup, has welcomed Robin Terrell, former CCO at Tesco and MD of Amazon UK and John Lewis Direct, as its chairman.

The startup, which closed a $3m Seed round in December 2015, uses its Subsound technology, a combination of acute infra-sound sensing, machine learning and geo-mapping, to enable users to protect their whole home with one device.

Sanjay Parekh, CEO of Cocoon, commented: “Robin is a highly respected and successful businessman, bringing a formidable amount of expertise from leadership at brands such as Amazon and Tesco. I have no doubt that Cocoon will greatly benefit from Robin’s knowledge, experience and belief in putting customers first in all we do.”

It is hoped Terrell’s appointment will assist Cocoon’s growth into retail and partnerships. He will also help guide the business through its first equity crowdfunding campaign, which launches today.

“He’s joining us at a key moment, as we invite our customers to join our journey and invest in Cocoon on Crowdcube. This investment will enable us to expand our retail distribution and insurance partnerships, where Robin’s strategic contributions are already proving immensely valuable,” he added.

Aviva Ventures and Breed Reply, which participated in Cocoon’s Seed round, are also returning to support the startup’s crowdfunding campaign.

Robin Terrell, new chairman of Cocoon, said: “Throughout my career I’ve seen that putting customers at the heart of your business is critical to success and that’s exactly what Cocoon do. I’m delighted to join them to help scale the business and get Cocoon on as many retailer’s shelves world wide as we can.”
