Amazon opening Shoreditch studio to take on fashion

Just months after announcing its new London offices, Amazon has revealed it will open a fashion photography studio in the heart of Shoreditch.

The online retailer has recently been ramping up its focus on the fashion sector and the new studio will help it fight for market share with companies like ASOS and Farfetch.

The 46,000-square foot studio, which is larger than the one serving the US market, is said to be one of the largest of its type in Europe.

The location is being rented from Transport for London and is situated in railway arches in Hoxton.

Focus on fashion

Sergio Bucher, vice-president of Amazon Fashion EU, explained that the new studio shows both its ambition for the sector and its “dedication to providing a first-class customer experience.”

Our new studio will enable us to produce high volumes of top-class photography by employing great talent in one of the leading fashion capitals of the world.

Amazon plans to open the studio by next summer.

Amazon makes London move

Earlier this year, Amazon announced it would be doubling its UK workforce and moving into a new Shoreditch office.

The new building is situated just north of Liverpool Station and Amazon have said it will move in by 2017.

Amazon’s UK operations currently employ 1,700 people outside of their distribution centres, which are mostly split between Slough and a new building in central London that opened last year.
