Amazon also reportedly expanding in Cambridge for R&D

Only days after it was reported that Apple was making a move to Cambridge, it looks like Amazon are following suit.

According to reports, the online giant is expanding its R&D operation in the city.

Amazon is currently advertising for Prime Air flight engineers with Evi Technologies, the Cambridge-based startup it acquired in 2013. It it also looking to hire site leaders and senior researchers.

Drones and speech

It appears the company will be focusing on its automated drone delivery service, with the flight engineer vacancy requiring “5+ years of relevant aviation experience” and “2+ years in a safety-related role”.

Evi Technologies develops software very similar to Siri’s. Reports also suggest that Amazon will be developing its speech technology, which is to be used in a number of Amazon products.

Amazon’s London base

In September, Amazon announced it would be doubling its UK workforce.

The company is set to take up over two-thirds of the 600,000 sq ft building, known as Principal Place.

Amazon plans to move all its non-R&D or warehouse staff to London by next summer.
