Fintech group Shieldpay has promoted chief operating officer Sophie Condie to chief executive alongside the appointment of former Lloyds senior team member Amanda Howkins as chief revenue officer.

Condie will take the helm of the firm as it looks to grow its secure digital payments platform.

The new chief executive first joined Shieldpay in 2021 as director of operations before being promoted to chief operating officer the following year.

Condie takes charge of Shieldpay with more than 20 years of experience in finance, having previously held roles at Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays.

As chief executive she will look to swing the company into profit, having posted £4.7m in losses for the 2024 financial year, 64% less than the previous year’s loss.

“As chief executive I’m keen to shine a light on the payments problem that law firms can no longer afford to ignore,” Condie said.

“It’s time to move on from the current patchwork of manual processes, spreadsheets, and legacy, fragmented systems which at best lead to headaches and at worst open businesses up to unnecessary risk.”

Condie will work alongside the newly appointed chief revenue officer who will be tasked with scaling the business and boosting turnover.

Howkins joins Shieldpay from payment technology platform Form3, having previously worked at Lloyds, Visa and Natwest.

“The legal industry is crying out for smarter, safer derisked payment solutions. That can only happen through true partners who are committed to pursuing best practices and technological innovation,” Howkins said.

“I’m excited to join Sophie and the team to help realise this next phase of growth.”
