Europe ‘can’t rely on the US’ for its space sector, that is not a bad thing

The UK and Europe “can’t rely on the US” to develop thriving space tech industries, according to a leading figure in the sector, as countries move towards a “sovereign approach”.

As the home of the largest tech industry, many of the world’s leading experts in the field and the most valuable space company globally, the US has naturally held a dominant position when it comes to the still nascent space industry.

But, according to Mark Boggett, chief executive of one of the world’s largest investment groups in the space tech industry Seraphim Space, those outside of the States must face the “harsh realisation that we can’t rely on the US anymore”.

Pointing to incidents such as the 10-day pause of support for Ukraine that took place last year, it has become clear for Boggett that European ambitions cannot be based on support from the US, though this is not necessarily a bad thing....
