Uniplaces raises £700k seed funding led by Octopus

Uniplaces, a student accommodation bookings site based in London and Lisbon has raised over £700,000 of seed funding led by Octopus Investments and two influential angel investors.

Alex Chesterman (Founder/CEO at Zoopla) and William Reeve (Chairman at Graze.com) joined the funding round as angel investors.

Headquartered in London

The company launched in Lisbon in 2012, following backing from Shilling Capital Partners. The site then quickly expanded to London, moving its headquarters there in June 2013.

They now list over 6000 rooms in London and plan to expand across Britain in the near future.

This Notting Hill split level studio rents for £2,166 per month

We took a look at the listings available in London and found a wide range of places including a studio in Notting Hill listed at an eye-watering £2,166 per month rent. Perhaps students aren’t as hard up as we previously thought?

ben_grechCommenting on the investment, Ben Grech, co-founder of Uniplaces, said:

“We are rapidly expanding the number and variety of accommodation offered on Uniplaces.com and are keen to work with reliable accommodation providers who have a sustained interest in renting to students.”
