Birmingham-based Braci raises £500,000 to help the hard of hearing

Braci, a Birmingham-based tech startup which seeks to help the hard of hearing, has raised £500,000 from SEED Capital and Welfare Tech Invest in Denmark.

The startup, based in Entrepreneurial Spark’s Birmingham Hatchery, is a sound recognition platform which works by recognising and analysing environmental sounds and converting these into visual and sensory smartphone notifications and alerts.

Co-founder and CEO Juma El-Awaisi said: “Today marks a very exciting milestone for Braci. Since our formation, we have worked hard to create this innovative and adaptable technology platform to assist those with hearing loss.

“This investment round will enable us to take our learnings and experience in the UK market to Europe through Denmark.  We have an exciting product roadmap for the potential uses of our technology and are confident we can grow Braci into a multi-million-pound concern,” he added.

According to a statement, Braci will use the money to strengthen its team and grow internationally.

Jim Duffy, founder and chief executive optimist at Entrepreneurial Spark, said: “Braci’s founding team are a perfect example of an entrepreneurs who embodie the mindsets and behaviours of an entrepreneurial team.

“They are determined, incredibly hard working and willing to go above and beyond to lead the business to success, and the team at Braci deserve a massive well done,” he concluded.
