Mimecast founder Peter Bauer has led a £1.8m investment round for Scotland-based video interviewing platform Willo.
Founded in Glasgow in 2018, Willo is a video interview platform with which organisations can vet candidates without scheduling calls or in-person meetings.
Job applicants record themselves responding to specific prompts that can be viewed at the company’s discretion. The Willo platform also screens candidates with digital identity and background checks.
Willo said its clients include the NHS, Prada, Samsung and Hitachi.
“The market is tough out there at the moment, particularly in SaaS, which makes this investment exciting. It provides a phenomenal opportunity to push ahead,” said Willo co-founder and CEO Euan Cameron.
“We are at the cutting edge of a movement in replacing the CV and can’t wait for the next stage.”
Bauer, who co-founded the HR tech giant Mimecast – currently valued at $5.8bn – in 2003, backed the startup to the tune of £1.5m.
“I’m excited to support Willo’s mission. The platform’s capability to simplify hiring not only enhances the candidate experience but makes life better for hiring managers,” said Bauer.
“It also helps to improve accessibility, enabling candidates to find better opportunities anywhere in the world, levelling the playing field, while giving companies a better understanding of who is actually best suited for any role.”
Additional funding came from 1818 Venture Capital and Freeserve founder Mark Danby.
According to Willo, the latest investment round brings the company’s total funding to £4.2m. It previously raised £250,000 in a seed round in 2020.
