The former CTO of London-based AI unicorn Stability has joined Unlikely AI, a startup launched by Amazon Alexa developer William Tunstall-Pedoe.
Unlikely AI, which secured £17.4m in seed funding in 2022, is developing a generative AI platform to compete with the likes of ChatGPT and Gemini.
Looking to scale its development, Unlikely has appointed Tom Mason as CTO. Mason previously held the same role at Stability for two years before quietly exiting the role in April.
Mason’s departure as CTO of Stability was one of several senior exits from the company, including founder and CEO Emad Mostaque, Stable Diffusion developer Robin Rombach and VP of audio Ed Newton-Rex.
“I joined Unlikely AI due to the incredible team, their capabilities, domain expertise, and focus on solving enormously valuable problems,” Mason said.
“This ambition combined with the current industry landscape, creates a unique opportunity which I could not be more excited to be a part of. This is a perfect recipe for innovation, achievement, and success.”
As well as Mason, Unlikely has appointed former Peak AI CFO Fred Becker as chief administrative officer.
“I could not be more excited to join a team with Unlikely AI’s capabilities and track record. Having previously provided leadership at a number of high-growth startups, Unlikely AI is showing all the signs of becoming another break-out success,” Becker said.
