The hidden risks in AI legal advice: Why SMEs must not confuse speed with strategy

AI is now embedded in how UK SMEs operate, and from marketing automation to financial forecasting, its tools promise speed, efficiency and cost savings.

It is therefore no surprise that so many founders juggling strained budgets and an unclear financial climate are now turning to AI-generated legal advice and DIY contract templates as part of their toolkit.

On the surface, it feels commercially sensible, as using AI for legal advice ensures that margins remain tight. Employer costs have risen, management teams are under pressure to move faster while spending less, so if AI can produce a contract or answer a legal query in seconds, why would they not do what others are undoubtedly doing and use it themselves?
