In their book No Ordinary Disruption, Richard Dobbs, James Manyika, and Lola Woetzel, conclude that the fundamental change caused by urbanisation, technological change, globalisation and demographic ageing on world economies and societies is happening “10 times faster” than the industrial Revolution – at “300 times the scale, or 3000 times the impact”.
The Prime Minister’s recent announcement on turbocharging Artificial Intelligence, taking forward all 50 recommendations set out by government advisor and venture capitalist Matt Clifford in his AI Opportunities Action Plan, is therefore a very welcome move.
Three major tech companies committing £14bn investment, on top of the government’s pledge of £25bn, to build the AI infrastructure the UK needs is also a strong positive at a time when growth is so desperately needed. The challenge is how we deliver that investment so that it truly benefits everyone in the UK....
