Earlier this year, to celebrate Earth Day, we brought your attention to some of the exciting sustainable startups based in the UK. It’s an area of the tech industry that’s seeing major growth of late, with a surge in investments being made into these ‘green’ businesses.  With the surge in investment in sustainable tech, there has been a substantial increase in the number of sustainable ‘green’ companies in the UK. London is home to a majority of these Net Zero companies in the UK while Cambridge and Edinburgh trail behind.

This surge in companies has also meant an exciting surge in terms of the job market, with countless sustainable startups looking to expand their teams with brilliant talent! We wanted to shine a bit more light on some of the kinds of roles open within these businesses…

Product Designer, Clim8 Invest

Clim8’s mission is to have a positive impact on climate change. They want to empower millions of people to invest sustainably in themes that include clean energy, clean technology, sustainable food, smart mobility and recycling. Clim8 is well funded having already successfully raised over £5 million via funding campaigns.

Clim8 is looking for a passionate Product Designer, who has a strong UI/visual design background, to join their design team at Clim8 Invest.

They’re currently working in cross-functional squads – comprising a product manager, a product designer and developers. The ideal candidate is someone who can identify user experience problems, design or change the UI to solve them, then produce high-fidelity designs for engineers to build them. Ability to work in a team, design for Mobile App and Web, research customer needs, and test design impact are very important skills in a successful candidate.

The successful candidate will identify customer problems that better design can solve, alongside the Product Manager. They will validate hypotheses and potential solutions via customer interviews and tests together with the Product Manager, while also creating wireframes, prototypes and designs for new product ideas or features. They will work with Product and Engineering teams to bring designs to life that are high quality and match design specifications, while maintaining consistency throughout the app by using design systems and continually improving the design quality across different channels.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience as a UI designer who can identify and solve UX problems, preferably in a startup-type environment. Experience working in a cross-functional squad is essential, as is the ability to work in a team with other designers.  They will need excellent communication skills with the ability to listen well, tailor your message to relevant audiences and drive to concrete design outcomes from discussions with– both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

VP of Marketing, Infogrid

Infogrid is helping protect the planet and improve the lives of billions of people by making every building a smart building. Their goal is to be the global provider for connected devices in smart buildings. They already handle millions of events every day from tens of thousands of sensors and they’d like someone to help them to scale that by an order of magnitude over the coming months.

Sustainability is at Infogrid’s heart; buildings account for 39% of global carbon emissions and they’re creating real solutions to impact this! They’re still early in their journey but have already achieved a lot; they raised a successful series A funding round, grew 5x in employee numbers within 12 months, and voted one of the top 10 most flexible places to work.

Infogrid has been flying under the radar for most of their journey so far and they’re now looking for someone to help them step out of the shadows! They are looking to hire a VP of Marketing to drive them through the next stage of growth. This person will be instrumental in helping to position Infogrid as a leader in the industry, and taking their vision and products all over the world. With customers already across EMEA, the USA and further afield into APAC, their ambitions are high and you will craft the marketing vision and strategy for Infogrid and then deliver it. The role will initially still be fairly hands on as they continue to grow the team.

Infogrid is looking for someone with experience in a fast-paced startup environment (taking a startup from Series A upwards), along with the ability to build a great brand, not just generating leads. The ideal candidate will have an experimental mindset, not afraid to AB test to find the right solution and an excellent writer with US experience.

Senior Product Manager, allplants

allplants believe that eating 100% plant-based meals should be tasty, easy and convenient. That’s why allplants was born – to help people enjoy plant-based eating on their schedule. It’s more than just a kitchen. It’s a home – where tech, marketing, creative, finance and food development all happens under one roof.

It allows them to dream big, test new recipes, gather customer feedback and roll out new products.

To achieve their mission, allplants is building out a new team that will be focused on leveling up thee-com and logistics systems that put meals on customer’s tables. They’re looking for a Senior Product Manager to join the Platform Team to help set the direction, gather requirements and be a champion for the team and systems within the company, that will help this exciting food business grow fast!

This is not a job where you’ll just throw specs over a fence to developers, it’s a challenging and rewarding role where you’ll be working closely with subject experts to build the fundamentals of an experience that users, partners and the allplants team themselves will love.

The successful candidate will visualise and shape platform teams strategy working in collaboration with Platform team, wider business and leadership. They will be working with Product Lead to implement and own a running strategic planning process with the Platform team. They will also be responsible for setting goals and defining what success looks like, how it is measured and reporting that back to business and leadership.

On top of that, they will be conducting regular discovery activities, working across all areas of the business to identify top problems and opportunities to solve in our ecommerce, logistics and marketing tech stacks that will help us scale and grow.
