Hackney’s finest head to Austin for SXSW

The best of Hackney’s tech, creative and design talent will head to Austin, Texas next month for South by Southwest (SXSW) next month.

The mission will bring over 30 Hackney-based businesses to Hackney House Austin, a specially-created 6,000 square feet space alongside the SXSW interactive festival.

The house will host presentations and networking events between March 7-10.

All Hackney-based businesses are welcome to use the facilities for meetings, networking and creating new business throughout the festival.

Partners this year include iCity, Dazed and Confused, Poke, Human After All, the V&A museum & Gensler. Tech City News will also join the mission as the official media partner.

Our friends at the 3Beards will kick off Hackney House Austin 2014 with a special Silicon Drinkabout on March 7th.

No cost to the public sector

Hackney Council launched their inaugural Hackney House Austin last year, which generated over £7.5 million of business leads.

The entire mission comes at no cost to the public sector, as Hackney Council funded the initiative entirely through sponsorship from the private sector.

As part of their support for the mission, British Airways also launched a new direct flight route between Austin and London for the first time.

Community college partnership

Eight students from Hackney Community College will also join the mission to learn more about the creative tech sector.

In partnership with Austin Community College, the group will take part in the Millennial Mentoring Programme and will attend Hackney House Austin’s events and an interactive workshop.

Councillor Guy Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Hackney Council welcomed the launch:

It’s testament to our creative businesses and partners that this year will be bigger and better with more Hackney based companies exhibiting, running events and making the most of a major networking and business-building opportunity.
