Amazon UK rolls out same day collection service

Amazon has announced a new service called ‘Pass My Parcel,’ which ensures same day collection of packages at select stores in the UK.

The expansion of its collection service follows a deal with magazine distributor Smith News, which will expand the service to over 500 stores.

In total Amazon’s collection service is available at more than 6,000 stores, though not all will provide same-day service.

Free to Prime users

For same day collection, consumers will have to place orders by 9:45 am for retrieval as early as 4 pm.

Consumers can also schedule an early next day collection as late as 7:45 pm the night before.

The service will be available to Amazon Prime members for free until the end of the year. Starting in 2015, Prime members will have to pay £4.99 per collection.

This new service marks another push from Amazon to merge its digital marketplace with the convenience of brick-and-mortar stores.

It also comes on the heels of Google’s expansion of its shopping service Google Express. Yesterday, Google announced it would broaden its same-day and next day delivery services to Chicago, Boston, and Washington DC.

New London offices

Earlier this year, Amazon announced it would be bringing more than  2500 jobs to London with their move to a new office building in Shoreditch.

The new building is situated just north of Liverpool Station. Amazon have announced they plan to move in by 2017.

The company will take up over two-thirds of the 600,000 sq ft building, known as Principal Place.
