bunq announces new charitable giving initiative

European challenger bank bunq has announced it has joined forces with with five global charities including Bill and Melinda Gates backed One Acre Fund (supporting small scale farmers) to revolutionise charitable giving with fintech and make it easier than ever to support good causes.
bunq is on a mission to utilise technology innovation to build a bank with a conscience that is no extra effort for users. With this update bunq aims to make supporting charitable causes as simple and easy as possible, which is more important than ever as recent research found London charities face a £4billlion shortfall this year.
bunq, who has recently pledged to plant 1 million trees before March next year, today launches ‘common goals’, which will allow people to easily give as little or as much as they want directly to charities simply through the bunq app on their phone.
Ali Niknam, founder and CEO of bunq said, “We asked our users for their feedback on our new app, and they didn’t disappoint. They told us they want a way to give back to the causes closest to their hearts with their like minded friends – and so Common Goals was born.”
Users can create a Common Goal whenever they want, for anything they want and instantly share it with anyone: friends, family, colleagues, loved ones, everyone can donate. Through the app, users are always up to date on how much has been raised, and can even see the total donations given by the entire bunq community.
Ali continues, “At bunq we’re not just a bank – we’re here to make our user’s lives easier, and leave the world in a better place than when we started. That’s why we have partnered with 5 amazing charities with this launch.”
Along with the ability to create and support their own cause, bunq has also partnered with global charities and users are now able to donate directly through the bunq app. These global charities include: One Acre Fund, Free a Girl, Terre des Hommes, Salt Farm Foundation and LittleBitz.
George Ooms, Team Lead Private Market, Terre des Hommes said, “Our goal is to stop child exploitation. A goal we can only realise with people and partners that are willing to make the change, who are committed to make the world a better place. And giving should always be easy. With its new feature Common Goals, bunq provides just that.
“A super easy tool that enables the public to engage with, give to and fundraise for charities. We are very happy to be part of the launch of Common Goals.”
