In the news
While three quarters of respondents to a survey by TransferWise said they would consider using technology companies for services currently provided by banks; London-based Aire, a credit score provider for those without a credit history, announced plans to expand to North America and Canada.
Barclaycard made the headlines with a new app update that enabled customers to make NFC payments using their Android phones, but the company couldn’t confirm when it will roll out Apple Pay.
Overseas, FinTech was a hot topic at the World Economic Forum, with Deutsche Bank AG’s CEO claiming physical cash will become extinct in the next ten years; and, in the States, blockchain startup Digital Asset Holdings raised $52m and won a contract to speed up settlement in Australia’s stock market.
