Forbes 30U30

Some 14 UK-based companies featured in the Forbes 30Under30 Europe technology category, unveiled yesterday.

The technology list features George Burgess, founder and CEO of Gojimo, a free revision app that uses content from educational publishers to help students prepare for exams.

Ruhul Amin, Eamon Jubbawy, Husayn Kassai, co-founders of Onfido, were also listed. The Oxford University graduates’ automated data aggregation platform analyzes applicants’ financial history, work status and criminal record to run deep background checks.

The startup is now used by more than 1,000 customers worldwide and has raised $5.3m.

Another entrepreneur on the list is Alex Klein, co-founder of buildable computer kit company Kano, which is the most successful crowdfunded project on Kickstarter to date, raising $1.5m in 30 days. Kano has since raised $16m in VC funding.

Joining Klein on the list is Jamkes Proud, who founded hardware startup Hello, which has raised $44m. Hello has created a gadget called Sense, which tracks sleeping patterns and measures how the environment of a room affects sleep.

Former LulzSec hacker Mustafa Al-Bassam is also on the list. He now focuses on uncovering government surveillance and is working on the Transparency Toolkit, hosted out of Wikileaks, which exposes government-installed malware.
