It’s been another exiting week in UK tech … here’s your weekly round up of startup competitions, awards, co-working space and accelerator news.
PwC cohort
PwC has announced the names of the 12 startups joining its ‘Future of Work’ programme.
The 12 week programme has accepted B2B startups with a proven product and will seek to support their growth through a combination of executive mentoring, corporate introductions and a business development curriculum.
The startups are:
action.ai is transforming the way people engage with businesses. Their patented technology platform enables companies to launch smart chatbots quickly and efficiently.
Adepto helps companies find, engage and manage their own extended workforce networks. It also provides larger companies with access to use their platform for internal labour mobility.
BulbThings is a smart asset management platform that helps companies take back control of their physical assets with a sleek, affordable app. Their solution automates administrative tasks and uses analytics and the Internet of Things for actionable insights to better manage assets in real-time.
Emoquo is a cloud based digital coaching and people analytics solution for everyone at work.
FlatClub for business is helping corporates provide relocation support for their junior employees, at a rate 90% cheaper than the current market average. The company has 60 corporate clients, active in over 100 locations, and 70 employees in London and Armenia.
Money Mover is a FinTech payments platform transforming the way small and medium-sized enterprises make international transfers.
Motivii is a platform that helps managers and their teams save time, improve feedback and boost performance.
Peak are pioneering Data-Analytics-as-a-Service. They turn data into opportunities and help their clients grow revenues and profits through a fully outsourced, subscription based data analytics service.
Privitar’s mission is to promote and facilitate the ethical and safe use of valuable data assets. The company works with the world’s largest organisations to drive the benefits from data through broader use, collaboration and monetisation.
Sedicii has patented a Zero Knowledge Proof based technology that eliminates the exposure of sensitive personal data during an authentication or identity verification process, allowing the matching of identity datasets, without an exchange of the underlying identity data.
Talmix wants to become the world’s marketplace for independent business talent. Their platform allows companies to identify, hire and manage the top 1% of independent consultants around the world on demand, to deliver specific projects or interim roles.
Valsight helps companies achieve their financial objectives. Their software simplifies the calculation of business cases and reduces the effort of simulating financial scenarios, empowering financial controllers to focus on forward-looking analyses that enable management to take the right strategic actions.
The FCA’s TechSprint
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) held a two-day technology based and ideas creation event earlier in the week at its innovation centre in Cambridge.
This year’s event, the second in the series, focused on how RegTech solutions could streamline regulatory reporting and improve firms’ understanding of compliance requirements.
Participants included: Accenture, Axis Corporate, Barclays, Bearing Point, ClauseMatch, Credit Suisse, Dassault Systèmes, Government Office for Science, Hewlett Packard Enterprises, Institute of International Finance, JWG, Monzo, PA Consulting, PwC, Santander and Wolters Kluwer, as well as post graduate students from UCL and Cambridge University.
Wired Audi Innovation Awards
The Wired Audi Innovation Awards, designed to highlight and celebrate the achievements of entrepreneurs and companies who work exemplifies best-in-class innovation, also took place this week.
DeepMind received the award for Innovation in AI, and its co-founder, Demis Hassabis,received the leadership in Innovation award.
Our very own Elevator Pitch alumnus, What3Words walked away with the Moonshot of the Year award, decided by a public vote.
David Rowan, editor of WIRED UK, said: “Our winners have brought about progress through the creative use of technology. We are delighted to shine a spotlight onto these extraordinary people who have all achieved extraordinary things.”
Friends of the Earth residency
Environmental campaigning organisation Friends of the Earth has launched its inaugural startup residence scheme.
The prize, which includes six months’ free desk space, represents an estimated cost-saving of over £8000 and includes access to internal training and networking events.
The residency is supported by HubbleHQ, the online marketplace that connects startups and other small businesses with those who have space to rent out.
Candidates are asked to submit a brief business plan and a short video outlining how their ambitions complement Friends of the Earth’s values.
Applications are open now and the competition closes on 11 December 2016. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to pitch their business to a panel of judges in January 2017.
