FBI challenges Apple, Google finds a mega bug, self-tidying chairs & more in the week in tech

In this week’s video we’ve rounded up some of the top tech-related investments from across the UK, including cybersecurity company SafeToNet’s £3m raise from DuKlaw Ventures.

Other investment news included London-based startup Movebubble’s £1.1m raise and mobile-first challenger bank Mondo’s £5m round from Passion Capital, which also invested £2m in the company last year.

In other news, researchers at Google have uncovered a major computer bug that could affect hundreds of devices. The security flaw has been found in an open source library of code called Glibc, which allows hackers to gain remote access and control a device.

Although the extent of the problem is still unknown, Google and security engineers at Red Hat have released a patch to try and fix the problem.

Over in the US, Apple has said it will challenge an FBI request to build backdoor access to the iPhone. The domestic security and intelligence service requested the tech giant’s help in its investigation of the San Bernadino terrorist attacks, which took place last December.

Our download of the week is Charge App, which will let you know when you battery is running low and where the nearest charging point is, so you don’t need to carry your charger. It works on all android and apple devices and you even get discounts from some major retailers.

And finally, car giant Nissan has developed robotic office chairs that tidy themselves away when people simply clap their hands. This smart furniture was in fact a byproduct of the company developing self driving car technology.
