PureLiFi has announced the closure of an undisclosed Series B funding round, bringing its cumulative funding raised to date to more than $10m.
The startup, which spun out of the University of Edinburgh, uses visible light spectrum – instead of radio frequencies – to deliver high-speed data communication and Internet access.
According to a statement, the company will use the cash to continue developing and commercialise its proprietary LiFi technology.
Harald Haas, founder of pureLiFi, said “I am absolutely delighted that this significant step for pureLiFi has been achieved towards unlocking the grand LiFi vision.”
The round was led by Temasek, a Singapore-based investment company, which also led Farfetch’s $110m Series F funding round, which closed in May.
Harald Burchardt , the COO of pureLiFi, said: “I am extremely proud that pureLiFi and our team have managed to deliver the technological and strategic basis for LiFi, and am truly excited about the strong partnership with Temasek and other strategic partners in our journey forward.”
The news comes after another Edinburgh University spin-out, Sofant Technologies Limited, raised £1.54m earlier this year.
