TCN’s top app recommendations: The Download List

download

Here’s our list of top iOS and Android downloads.

QUIK

Not only can modern smartphones take high quality photos, they can also record amazing video. But what do you do with all the footage? Quik is a video editing app that takes a bunch of your footage and automatically identifies your best moments. It even sets the whole thing to mood-appropriate music. GoPro acquired the app last year (formerly known as Replay) and rebranded it with a slick design. On iOs and Android.

HOUSEPARTY

Meerkat, the company that turned live-streaming into a sensation, is back with Houseparty – an app for video chatting with up to eight friends at once. The company is calling it a “synchronous social network” or a place to be together when you are apart. While it’s fun to use, it raises the question of whether private broadcasting will become successful. Will this turn into just another video calling app? On iOs and Android.

SNATCH

Described as Pokemon Go for adults, Snatch is an active gaming app. But instead of bragging rights for how many Pokemon you’ve caught, you can win tangible things. Instead of spending real money to buy virtual products like in most games, you spend nothing and get to go home with cool stuff. The app launched last year and has partnered with some big brands in its augmented reality treasure hunt. On iOs and Android.

STATION MASTER

Created by a two-time Guinness World Record holder for travelling to all Tube stations in the fastest time possible, Station Master is an insanely detailed app that can speed up the process of getting around London. It started off by offering carriage and platform information but graduated to a 3D mapping of Tube stations. The map shows tunnels, escalators, tracks, lifts, and even sneaky shortcuts for Zone 1 stations. On iOs. £2.99

GOOGLE KEEP

This was definitely the best productivity app I downloaded in 2016. After being available on Android for more than three years, Google Keep made its debut on iOS about a year ago. It’s by no means an Evernote killer, but the search giant’s note-taking app comes integrated with multiple Google platforms for a simplified experience. Keep lets you make collaborative lists, and set time or location-based reminders, among other handy features. On iOs and Android.

HITLIST

We all love a good travel deal, and timing is everything when it comes to snagging a bargain. Hitlist is an app that tells you when it’s cheap to fly to your dream destination. This app combines travel photography with airfare deals so you can add your favourite destinations to your watch list. Then you’ll get alerts when there is an incredible price on flights to your bucket list locations.
On iOs and Android.
