Danish quantum startup Kvantify has expanded into the UK with the appointment of four ex-Benevolent AI employees to its drug discovery division.

As part of its move into the UK the quantum startup has partnered with the chemistry department at King’s College London to explore new quantum use cases and sponsor a PhD student.

Hans Henrik Knudsen, co-founder and CEO, Kvantify said: “We believe that London offers an ideal ecosystem for our software solutions to flourish. The city’s vibrant tech community and access to top talent align perfectly with our growth objectives.”

The newest hires are Michael Carter (head of drug discovery), Giulio Mattedi (cheminformatics specialist), Daniela Dolciami (senior computational chemist) and Rob Ziolek (computational chemistry specialist). The UK team add to the startup’s 50-plus employees in Denmark.

In June, Kvantify raised 40m DKK (£4.6m) in capital led by Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund.

Kvantify is exploring applications of quantum computing across financial services, logistics and pharmaceuticals. Its London-based team will work on using “physical simulations and machine learning” in drug discovery.

Henrik Knudsen added that Kvantify is looking to grow its stake within the UK and Europe now that it has established itself as a “serious player” in Denmark,

Benevolent AI earlier this year decided to axe its headcount in half.
