Dozens of cyclists from London’s tech community are making their final preparations for a three day cycle to raise money for charity.
More than 70 founders and techies are taking part in TechBikers, the annual charity ride from Paris to London.
Now in its second year, the challenge is hoping to raise money for the charity Room to Read, which improves literacy and gender equality for children in Asia and Africa.
Leaving this Friday on the 07.01am train to Paris, the cyclists will then complete an arduous three-day cycle back to London, returning to a welcome party with family and friends at Campus London.
Companies involved in the race include Google, Microsoft, Level39 plus startups Stripe, GoCardless and Klaze.
National endorsement
The ride has become an annual event in the tech calendar and there are hopes it could go global in 2014; it’s even caught the eye of Stephen Fry.
The 40 cyclists involved last year raised enough money to build two schools and two libraries in Nepal.
Organisers are hoping to double the total this year and raise more than $75,000 for Room to Read.
More than just cycling
And the Tech City community is getting involved in other ways too.
The event has a volunteer steering committee for tech, Stripe have waived payment fees and donations are being powered by believe.in
