George Osborne has opened a new digital office of Deloitte in London as the company announces 1200 new jobs.
The new space is the latest in the corporation’s Deloitte Digital venture, the arm of the company responsible for the all tech-based consulting, and joins similar offices in Belfast and Amstelveen.
The firm also pledged its support to the Government’s Your Life campaign, aimed at increasing the number of women studying STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects.
Growing quickly
Deloitte will hire a total of 4,500 people across the group up to December 2015, including 500 at Deloitte Digital.
The new hires will include 2,000 graduates and school leavers, of which 200 will be at the newly opened digital business.
1,200 of the positions opened up will be newly created.
Focus on women in tech
The Chancellor told Tech City News he agreed that there are also issues remaining in balancing careers with families, and that the Government has “expanded the maternity and paternity rights entrenched in law”.
But he said that in his experience “the most go-getting, successful small businesses are also the ones that have the happiest and most satisfied workforces who are able to make the balance between their family life and their business life”.
Life commitments
Deloitte has set targets of reaching 25% female partners by 2020 and 30% by 2030.
They have also committed to encourage all 600 employees in its Women in Technology Network to act as mentors to young people in partnership with Teach First, and offer up to 50 summer placement, work experience and BrightStart roles across the firm, dedicated to STEM careers.
